The results that are reflected on Department of Basic Education website are the results of the full-time November National Senior Certificate examination only. Part-time NSC candidates' results are only available from the examination centre where they wrote.

The Statement of Results is available from January at the school/exam centre where the candidate wrote.

Some candidate's results may be excluded from the results published on department website because of technical reasons. If a candidate's results do not show, the candidate should please enquire at the centre where they wrote or district/provincial office.

The Department of Basic Education reserves the right to change any of the information published on this website. IMPORTANT: There is a second opportunity available to complete or improve your results. You can register for the May/June examination. Admission requirements are on the reverse side of your Statement of Results.

You can register to rewrite matric subjects if you want to improve your results.

The Second Chance Matric Programme of the Department of Basic Education provides support to learners who want to rewrite subjects. It helps them to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC) and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate.

Face to face classes are available at locations around the country, as well as online programmes and television and radio broadcasts.

The following opportunities to rewrite exist:

National Senior Certificate (NSC) supplementary exams - March
National Senior Certificate (NSC) progressed learners (learners who wrote the NSC the previous year but did not sit for all 6 subjects) - June
Part-time NSC candidates (learners who attempted the NSC examinations post 2015) - November

As stipulated in the South African Schools Act of 1996, all children between the ages of 7 and 15 are compelled to attend school. Parents and guardians should ensure that all learners of this age are registered to go to school and that their children attend school regularly.

It is the responsibility of every parent and guardian to ensure that their children are registered for the following year, well before the end of the current school year. Parents may register children who are supposed to start school next year, near their home or workplace between April and October of each year. It is however important to check the registration deadlines of individual provinces.

About registering with an AET centre

Are you an adult or a young person wanting to get basic education? It is not too late; you can register with an Adult Education and Training (AET) centre.

AET is an outcomes-based programme that aims to give you basic learning tools, knowledge and skills, and equip you with nationally-recognised qualifications.

Anyone who did not complete mainstream schooling, and want to attain qualifications in a flexible environment, may register with any AET centre. The AET centres may give you placement tests to determine whether you are at AET level one, two or three.

What you should do
Register at your nearest AET centre.
Submit your birth certificate or identity document and any of your school records.
Time frame
It may take one to two weeks to register.

Fees vary from centre to centre.

Supporting Documentation

Electronic copies of the following supporting documents will be required during the online application process:

For lost or damaged certificates:

An affidavit stating what happened to your certificate (i.e. if it is lost or damaged);
The original national/ senior certificate (if it is damaged), this is not applicable if it is lost;
A certified copy of your identity document (ID); and
Proof of payment.
For combination of results:

Your results from all examination sittings;
A certified copy of your Identity Document; and
Proof of payment.
